There are some news that surprise me. Udi Manber, former “chief algorithms officer” at Amazon is behind the Knol projet. Wikipedia the free encyclopedia that anyone in the world can edit. I think that to have another one is a step back. Google is losing his focus and should rethink his strategy. I take some time to think and I am not able anymore to abstract Google’s vision, mission and precise objectives and I am quite sure that those new ideas and approaches will not lead to new successes.
I agree that to try is one of the marketing laws. I do not agree to try to do the same someone else is doing without a value added contribution. Some marketing info are not fully tested. Udi, as a knowledgeable mathematician may help. I do not know his experience into the field of natural language. The challenge is about semantics, the meaning in language, related topics and so on. My brain is tired today and comments are welcome! If this subject is one of your interest, please, comment the post. You will be making me to see more clear. Thank you!

Um Comentário para “Does Google really Knol what to do?”

  1. Hi Joao! What I really think about Google’s try, just like they’re doing with the Lively (Google’s SecondLife) is all about “control”. Imagine yourself with something interesting in your hands, but not able to change things you believe could be better for your purposes. To do it by yourself is probably the most obvious path to follow if you can’t change the original, isn’t it? Sorry if I have missed the point misunderstood you. But based on what I understood in your words, I believe it’s all about controls on Google’s intentions. Also, if my memory is not betraying me, a Google’s Encyclopedia isn’t a new idea from them, and since profiling is the real Google’s interest, I believe a encyclopedia is one of the most interesting places just after a search engine for you to know a little more about people’s interests. That’s how I analyze enterprises like Google taking actions like that. Also, options is good. When it’s free and promising to be better, great! What I really believe is that we can’t wait for nothing than the best from a Google initiative like that, even if it seems more and more like some kind of monopoly. But… Monopoly of what? Free options? A “what I really am” database?
Anyway… It’s a good discussion! Congrats for the blog and its subjects. RSS added! PS: Are you one of the JaCotei investors/people?
