How to use Meta Tags and be SEO friendly?

Search Engine Optimizers have two different views about meta tags. Some says that meta tags have been devalued in search engines. They are still being used as you can see the description of your site listed in the search results. Meta tags were used to help the search engines organize the web pages. This was an easy way to get your site indexed.

Now search engines have discontinued the use of meta tags to organize their search results.
Algorithms are technologically advanced and they use a number of other methods for indexing.

Meta tags come in different names and uses. There are four that I find sites using to optimize. They are as follows:
Meta Robots: This tag is supported and tells the search bots to follow the URL or you ask them not to index parts of your site that may not be relevant.
Meta Description: GoogleGoogleGoogle webmaster tool now tell you if the description is short or long, so it’s been used by Google.
Meta Keywords: Keep it simple. Most SEO gurus says don’t add more than 20 or so keywords.
Meta Content Type: Recommended because if you do not have this tag it could cause display problems.

Search engines don’t use the meta tags as they did, but you can still use them. Some SEO are believers in the meta tag and other are strongly against it. Meta tags can be used for a number of reasons and still offer you a great place to sell your stuff.

Use a small number of Meta Tags, and if used correctly they will improve your chances of higher rankings.
